Communicating with your Furnace.

That may sound weird, but your furnace will not tell you when it is about to break down.  Now that we are headed into the dead of winter it would be nice to know what it is “thinking”.  Most furnace problems that occur in your home are preventable and here are a couple of tips to follow to keep that reliable appliance from breaking down at the worst time.

Suffocation.  Just like humans, furnaces can literally suffocate from restricted air flow.  If you do not close air vents and change your filter regularly it can put a strangle-hold on your furnace.  There is also the possibility of simple neglect.  If you run the unit without a filter and do not have it checked periodically you could be asking for trouble.

The thought of a failing furnace in sub-freezing temperatures around Colorado Springs is frightening!  We at Altitude Heating and Air are here to help.  If your furnace breaks down this winter, we will come to your home as quickly as possible to get it back up and running.  Please give us a call anytime at (719) 209-4955.

The Strange Dichotomy Between Snowfall and Colorado Springs.

I know that tourists must think that we get measurable snowfall every Christmas.  For Colorado Springs, this is NOT necessarily the case!  In the city we do not usually get large amounts of snow.  Bad news, even if we do it is usually gone in a day or two.  Even looking ahead to January, it is not uncommon to have temperatures in the 50’s.

Hey locals, don’t tell everybody that we have mostly clear roads this time of year, but some of the greatest skiing in the U.S. is just a drive away.  As a matter of fact, the most snowfall that we have ever had on Christmas Day was just 2.3 inches.  Back in 1982 there was a record 7 inches of snow on the ground…surprising?

White Christmas or not, we at Altitude Heating and Air will continue to serve the Colorado Springs area for all of its residential and commercial HVAC needs during this holiday season and in the year to come.  From our family at Altitude Heating and Air to you and your family Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Keeping Up With Ever-changing Technology.

The HVAC business is constantly evolving.  It is very much like other industries in this country.  Those companies who live in the last century are doomed to fail.  Reliability and experience are as important as they ever were…make no mistake about it.  These days, being on the cutting edge of technology is just as important.

Here are some eco-friendly innovations that have changed the industry –

1.  The software is changing dramatically
2.  The innovation of ice-powered air conditioners
3.  Geothermal heat pumps
4.  Thermally driven air conditioning

This is just the tip of the iceberg.  When you call someone to help you with heating, ventilating, and air conditioning needs you want to have the peace of mind of knowing that you are calling the best in our area.  In and around Colorado Springs that company is Altitude Heating and Air.  See for yourself.  Next time call (719) 209-4955.

It’s Time to Pump…You Up.

That may sound like an old SNL routine with Hans and Franz, but in this case, it refers to a new pump for your home.  Basically, there are two types of sump pumps.  There are submersible pumps and pedestal pumps.  As you might have guessed, submersible ones are installed under water while pedestal ones are installed above the sump basin.

Here are some sump pumps to consider –

1.  Primary found in most basements
2.  Battery back-up pumps
3.  Combination…combining a primary and a battery back-up
4.  Sewage pumps which are designed primarily to pump sewage away from a home

So who is the pump expert among Colorado Springs plumbers?  A great choice for our diverse area is Altitude Heating and Air.  You can learn more by visiting their new website at www.altitudehvacco.com.  They have been serving the Colorado Springs area for all of our plumbing and HVAC needs.  Give them a call today at (719) 209-4955.

Sump Pumps in Winter.

We in the Colorado Springs area know that winter will soon hit in full force.  When it does, is your sump pump ready for the Rocky Mountain weather ahead?  It is important to note that your sump pump will run occasionally during the winter months as melted snow tends to accumulate in the sump pit over time.

Here is the iffy part.  If your sump pump runs irregularly and continues for an extended period…you probably have a problem.  Did you remove its flex hose?    The flex hose connects to your sump pump’s plastic drain piping somewhere along the exterior of your home and is intended to direct sump water away from your home’s foundation.

Problematic…you bet it is!  Do you want to be responsible for all of this yourself or would you like to have a Colorado Springs sump pump expert troubleshoot it for you?  That is why we are here.  We are Altitude Heating and Air solving and preventing HVAC issues throughout Colorado Springs.  Please give us a call at (719) 209-4955.

The Holiday Season is Coming.

That carries a number of heads-up thoughts.  Thanksgiving is next month and Christmas the following one.  With that comes the reality that your kitchen may be getting quite a workout.  One appliance in particular will be asked to perform at peak efficiency…your garbage disposal.  Imagine a broken disposal over the holidays!

What are some signs that your garbage disposal needs to be replaced?

1.  It sounds like the garbage truck has arrived, but the noises are coming from your kitchen
2.  You keep having to use the reset button
3.  It shuts off by itself while in use
4.  What is that smell coming from your sink?
5.  Puddles beneath the sink

These are all signs that at least a repair and probably a replacement are in order.  You need a plumber…stat!  In Colorado Springs hundreds have discovered that the right choice is Altitude Heating and Air.  They are garbage disposal repair and replacement professionals in our area.  Don’t wait until the holiday season, call Altitude Heating and Air at (719) 209-4955.

Let the Heat Radiate.

You had better believe it, the time is nigh for reliable heating throughout your Colorado Springs area home.  A hard-working furnace is essential to your family’s future comfort.  Part of a home inspection of your heating system is based on knowledge and experience.  Make sure that you hire the right HVAC company.

It may seem like a no-brainer, but a qualified furnace inspector must be able to analyze then justify and explain any recommendations in his report.  You don’t want smoke and mirrors when your furnace is inspected!  Then you must ask yourself…is he (or she) giving me all of the information that I need to know before deciding on any repairs.

Installing and inspecting your furnace properly is the job of a HVAC professional.  Fortunately, we have one in the Colorado Springs area.  That is the team from Altitude Heating and Air at www.altitudehvacco.com.  For all of your home heating needs this winter rely on Altitude Heating and Air.  Just call Lonny at (719) 209-4955.

It’s a Gas, Gas, Gas.

As the old saying went gas was a good thing.  That is not always the case when there is a gas leak at your home or office.  Gas lines are an integral part of a building system.  They carry a dangerous product…gas.  Unlike many other structural elements, they must never be handled by a well-meaning DIYer!

Here are some important tips –

1. Understand the cause of a faulty gas line.
2. Don’t investigate a leak on your own.
3. Never, never switch on a light or strike a match.
4. Have an annual inspection for lines that may be going bad.
5. Do not trust an amateur!

As to that last point, we are very fortunate to have a gas line leak detecting repair and replacement professional right here in Colorado Springs.  Call Lonny at Altitude Heating and Air or visit the new website at www.altitudehvacco.com.  You will see the myriad of services that Lonny and his crew provide.  Stay safe…call (719) 209-4955 right away.
