Just What is an HVAC System Anyway?

You see and hear this acronym all the time, but what does it stand for? HVAC in your Colorado Springs area home means heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. HVAC systems are common in our community’s single-family homes. In short, they provide environmental comfort. These systems use fresh air from outdoors to provide high indoor air quality.

There are several parts to your HVAC system including –

1.  The air return which marks the start of the system.

2.  Then there is the filter.

3.  There are exhaust outlets where the exhaust is expelled.

4.  There are also ducts where the air passes through.

5.  Electrical elements where trouble is likely to begin.

Add in the outdoor compressor and you have a system that requires the skill of a trained HVAC pro to repair or replace it. That is where Altitude Heating and Air enters the picture. For years, the Colorado Springs area has counted on Altitude to fix your HVAC system. See for yourself at altitudehvacco.com. and call (719) 209-4955 at the first sign of trouble.

Does it Feel Warmer in Here?

That’s something you really don’t want to have to say in your Colorado Springs area home this time of year.  We know, sometimes it is hard to tell whether your air conditioning unit is broken or not especially for inexperienced homeowners.  Perhaps you won’t even realize that there is something wrong with your A/C until it has stopped working entirely!

Here are some signs that repair or replacement of your home’s a/c unit is needed –

1.  The rooms are simply not cooling like they used to.
2.  You go to turn on your air conditioning and it refuses to go on.
3.  Strange sounds are emanating from the unit.
4.  There are noticeable leaks and moisture.
5.  Your electric bill keeps going up.

You may have thought before the hot weather hit us that this was a real probability this season.  You can’t put it off any longer!  If you live in the Colorado Springs area it is time to call Altitude Heating and Air.  Just because we live at a higher altitude it doesn’t mean it won’t get uncomfortably hot.  Call Altitude Heating and Air at (719) 209-4955.

We’ve Got a Ways to go Boys and Girls.

If your aging furnace didn’t keep your Colorado Springs home comfortably warm during the winter, it’s a good time to seriously consider replacing it.  Why replace a furnace now rather than waiting until the fall of 2020?  Because upgrading your heating system in the spring offers some big benefits.

HVAC contractors are slower this time of year.  Now is the time to do some comparison shopping before deciding on that new heating system.  You can plan your home’s budget much easier by “pulling the trigger” this time of year.  It is logical to assume that your furnace is not going to heal itself this summer!

For these and other reasons why you should replace your furnace in the spring, please contact us at Altitude Heating and Air.  We will give you the whys and the wherefores on the subject and you will hear it from the very best in the HVAC business in Colorado Springs.  We are Altitude Heating and Air.  Please call us at (719) 209-4955.

Give Me a V.

A “V” for ventilation that is.  Did you ever wonder what the “V” in HVAC really means?  The H and the AC are rather obvious, then there is that “V” word.  We all know that heating and air conditioning systems comfort our homes and work spaces, but the “V” in HVAC may be something of a mystery.  What is ventilation and why do you need it?

Ventilation is required for both HVAC comfort and good air quality. Without enough ventilation in your space, you will eventually experience comfort issues and even health problems.  These could range from having trouble sleeping in a stuffy bedroom to experiencing Sick Building Syndrome in a commercial space.

Now you know why the “V” word is so important in HVAC.  What is much more important is knowing whom to call when you need HVAC repair or replacement in your home or office.  In Colorado Springs that answer is easy.  It’s Altitude Heating and Air.  Always remember Altitude for your general HVAC needs.  That phone number is (719) 209-4955.

What you Need to Know about HCFC-22

The most common type of refrigerant used in air conditioning and refrigeration equipment is HCFC-22…better known as R-22.  If your air conditioner or heat pump was manufactured before 2010, it most likely uses R-22 refrigerant.  Check the name plate on your outdoor condenser unit to be sure.

Due to their ozone depletion effects, fluorocarbons, and especially hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), are being phased out by the Environmental Protection Agency.  As a matter of fact, production of HCFC-22 (R-22) will stop completely by 2020.  Ozone-depleting substances are regulated as a class I or class II controlled substance in the U.S. to protect the ozone layer.

What does this all mean to you…a home owner or landlord in the Colorado Springs area?  You can find out by calling Altitude Heating and Air.  The techs at Altitude have been taking care of this area’s air conditioning and heating needs for many years and know the latest on R-22.  Call Altitude Heating and Air today at (719) 209-4955.

Central Air Conditioning.

I know, it is only mid-spring, but soon Colorado Springs will be hot and central air conditioning in your home will be a necessity.  Do you have a whole-house a/c system already, or are you living without one?  Either way, we would like to let you know about some of the options in the whole-house air conditioning category.

Here are some choices –

1.  Split systems…the most common type in the U.S.
2.  Heat pumps…they are a variation of the traditional split system.
3.  Packaged…providing condenser, evaporator, and compressor in a single unit.

Whatever your needs, if you live in the greater Colorado Springs area, we would like to install your new all-home central air conditioning system.  We are proud to offer our years of expertise and assess which system is right for your home.  We are Altitude Heating and Air.  You can find us on the web at altitudehvacco.com.  Just call (719) 209-4955.

If yours goes out, you will want it fixed immediately!  Why not pay some attention to it at the end of April before you need it?  A/C professionals all agree that if you don’t want surprises your home’s air conditioning unit should be checked every year.  What better time to do that than right now?

A New Season is Coming.

In the Spring around Colorado Springs the ground begins to thaw.  Families in our area often turn their attention to HVAC.  Here in March plans will be made to make the transition between cold weather and warmer coming soon to Central Colorado.  Make sure that no detail is overlooked.

Somethings to consider before hiring that perfect HVAC company –

1.  What will be the final projected cost?
2.  When are you expected to pay?
3.  Will they clean up thoroughly?
4.  What if something goes wrong…what are the guarantees?
5.  Are they licensed, insured, and bonded?

That last point is obviously very important.  There are some HVAC companies who may even be unlicensed that can install and repair appliances in your home.  Are you willing to risk that?  For all installation of HVAC related fixtures call on Altitude Heating and Air.  The people you’ve trusted for a decade and a half in the Colorado Springs area at (719) 209-4955.

Instant and Consistent Heat.

If you are without heat in the Colorado Springs area for even one hour you feel it.
Gas furnaces and heaters have control shutoffs to prevent gas leaks, but remember they are not fail-safe.  If you smell something like a rotten egg smell, you could have a gas leak in your house.  DO NOT try to shut off the gas leading to the furnace!

Here are some other tips we hope will help –

1.  Do you have a clean filter?
2.  Try the reset button.
3.  Is your door cover securely fastened?
4.  Do not close more than 20% of the registers.
5.  Here is a simple one.  Is the furnace switch in the “on” position?

If you have done your due diligence and your furnace is not cranking out the appropriate heat, then please call us.  We are Altitude Heating and Air.  We have served the climate control needs of the Colorado Springs area for years and are proud to offer emergency furnace service in 2019 as well.  Please give us a call at (719) 209-4955.

The Strange Dichotomy Between Snowfall and Colorado Springs.

I know that tourists must think that we get measurable snowfall every Christmas.  For Colorado Springs, this is NOT necessarily the case!  In the city we do not usually get large amounts of snow.  Bad news, even if we do it is usually gone in a day or two.  Even looking ahead to January, it is not uncommon to have temperatures in the 50’s.

Hey locals, don’t tell everybody that we have mostly clear roads this time of year, but some of the greatest skiing in the U.S. is just a drive away.  As a matter of fact, the most snowfall that we have ever had on Christmas Day was just 2.3 inches.  Back in 1982 there was a record 7 inches of snow on the ground…surprising?

White Christmas or not, we at Altitude Heating and Air will continue to serve the Colorado Springs area for all of its residential and commercial HVAC needs during this holiday season and in the year to come.  From our family at Altitude Heating and Air to you and your family Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Keeping Up With Ever-changing Technology.

The HVAC business is constantly evolving.  It is very much like other industries in this country.  Those companies who live in the last century are doomed to fail.  Reliability and experience are as important as they ever were…make no mistake about it.  These days, being on the cutting edge of technology is just as important.

Here are some eco-friendly innovations that have changed the industry –

1.  The software is changing dramatically
2.  The innovation of ice-powered air conditioners
3.  Geothermal heat pumps
4.  Thermally driven air conditioning

This is just the tip of the iceberg.  When you call someone to help you with heating, ventilating, and air conditioning needs you want to have the peace of mind of knowing that you are calling the best in our area.  In and around Colorado Springs that company is Altitude Heating and Air.  See for yourself.  Next time call (719) 209-4955.

Let the Heat Radiate.

You had better believe it, the time is nigh for reliable heating throughout your Colorado Springs area home.  A hard-working furnace is essential to your family’s future comfort.  Part of a home inspection of your heating system is based on knowledge and experience.  Make sure that you hire the right HVAC company.

It may seem like a no-brainer, but a qualified furnace inspector must be able to analyze then justify and explain any recommendations in his report.  You don’t want smoke and mirrors when your furnace is inspected!  Then you must ask yourself…is he (or she) giving me all of the information that I need to know before deciding on any repairs.

Installing and inspecting your furnace properly is the job of a HVAC professional.  Fortunately, we have one in the Colorado Springs area.  That is the team from Altitude Heating and Air at www.altitudehvacco.com.  For all of your home heating needs this winter rely on Altitude Heating and Air.  Just call Lonny at (719) 209-4955.
